2012 List: Every car I drove this year

Continuing my douchey humblebrag list of cars I’ve driven in the past year, here is my list for 2012. Same disclaimer applies: some I drove for ten minutes, some for a week.

Up until just two-and-a-half years ago, the most powerful car I had ever driven had 315 horsepower (BMW M Coupe). Thanks to greater opportunities, and ever-soaring horsepower figures in this crazy age we live in, that number has been topped countless times in some unexpected ways. Just the beginning: Experiments in Light Painting

Lightpainting is a process where you take a long exposure image at night, and selectively illuminate what you want to show up with conventional lights (not flashes). So instead of a strobe, you can use a flashlight, and whatever you don’t hit [paint] with the light will stay dark. You have to go somewhere that’s pitch black, because the long exposures (15 seconds or more) will amplify any ambient light in the background or reflect on the car. Finding somewhere completely dark isn’t easy when you live in a city of sprawl such as Houston, Texas.  Continue reading…

Shots from the track: LeMons at MSR Houston

In Texas, it’s rare to attend a motorsport event that isn’t something driving in circles around Texas Motor Speedway. We have a lot of tracks, but they’re mostly club tracks or circuits too old to hold major motorsport events. All the more reason I was thrilled that LeMons was coming to practically my back yard! You know — LeMons — the race series comprised of $500 cars? Last weekend I attended the 24 of LeMons event in Angleton, Texas called the “Garrapatas Peligrosas GP.”  Continue reading…
